Kia Niro finalist in Car of the Year 2023

  • The Car of the Year jury has selected the Kia Niro as one of seven finalists
  • The Kia EV6 won the award in 2022
  • The Kia Niro is offered as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric

Kia has once again reached the final of the European Car Of The Year, this time with the compact crossover Kia Niro. The expert panel of 58 jury members from 22 countries carefully evaluated 27 models to create a “shortlist” of seven car models. The winner will be chosen at the Brussels Motor Show on January 13.

The new Kia Niro has undergone an extensive upgrade. As before, three electrified powertrains are offered – hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric, EV – all to make the transition to electrified mobility as easy as possible.

The Kia Niro EV has a 463 km all-electric range, while the Niro Plug-In Hybrid goes 65 km on electricity, covering most people’s commuting needs. The spacious and functional interior is furnished with durable materials and features the latest infotainment and connectivity features.

100% rechargeable by 2024

Kia wants as many people as possible to be able to switch to driving on electricity. Today, 83 percent of the cars Kia sells are plug-in and Kia has the lowest average CO2 emissions (35 grams/km) of the best-selling car brands in Europe (up to September, Vroom). Kia’s goal is for 100 percent of all cars sold in Europe to be rechargeable by 2024.

Jason Jeong, president of Kia Europe:
– We are honored that the Car of the Year jury selected the Kia for the 2023 final. The model has just won the Golden Steering Wheel award in Germany. It would be an incredible achievement if the Niro were to follow in the Kia EV6‘s footsteps and win Car of the Year in 2023.
